The 4th
Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment is back in the front line north of the River
Ancre, near the site of their triumph in November. As the map above shows they are just north of Beaucourt-sur-Ancre
facing almost due north. The adjutant spoke with me for some time about the
Battalion’s expectations for this year and chief among them was a renewal of the
Somme offensive in this locality where the front line did not move very far
last year.
