Another German Attack Near the 1st Battalion
Wednesday
11th November 1914: the adjutant of the 1st Battalion, entrenched near the Menin Road, reports
that the Germans have made another attack. They broke through about two hundred
yards from the battalion's left flank. They then made an attack on this exposed
flank but were repelled, albeit with the loss of seventeen or so of our boys
wounded. A counter-attack by other units restored the position on the
battalion's left flank. The Germans persist in making these attacks on our
positions but they do not seem well-co-ordinated and, indeed, seem rather
piecemeal in nature which suggests that they do not really expect to make much
headway across the front but are just trying to seize a few local objectives
before the lines settle down for the winter.
