Monday 12th July: We have been given information today by the adjutant of the 2nd Bedfords
as to their current position. This illustrates the odd names which the troops
give their trenches and other points in the landscape. They are south-east of
the village of Richebourg-l’Avoué, near the town of Béthune. They are occupying
a number of posts called, respectively, Chocolate, Dead Cow, Ditch, Haystack, Path
and Orchard.
