Tuesday 12th January 1915:
readers will be familiar with the 2nd Bedfords ’
commanding officer, Major William Henry Denne. He remains with the battalion
but now as second-in-command, the new commanding officer being Major Cranley
Charlton Onslow.
The battalion is currently
in trenches south-west of Fleurbaix. It is very wet here and the trenches are
full of water. Yesterday the battalion received four semi-rotary pumps, two of
them of a type used by the French. We hope they will be able to stem the flow
of water converting trenches into streams.
