  1. This is my Great Uncle Abel. He had 3 sisters all of whom I knew when I was a child. Great Aunt Annie, Great Aunt Ellen, Great Aunt Mary. As a boy going to school, the bus would stop opposite the memorial in Stretham.Cambridgeshire. I would look for and read his name from time to time.Great Uncle Abel's photo hung in the living room of his sister's house. It was sepia. He wore his uniform, sat on a chair and had a gentle smile. Innocent as to his future. That picture always made me wonder about him. I have been unable to ascertain the actual cause of his death through wounds. I haven't been able to connect the date of his death to any specific battle. We have visited his grave in Boulogne. We have left flowers. We have told him of his sister's in later years. The grave stone is rather worn after all these years. His name is still visible. My children and their children know if my Great Uncle Abel.
