  1. Richard George Pateman Private, died 9 November 1914 age 27. He was born in Wootton, Bedfordshire son of Frederick Pateman and Fanny Pateman (Nee Gilbert). Served in 1st Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. He fought with the battalion in the early actions of war, before being killed in action and died on 9th November 19124. He was the villages first casualty of the Great War.
