The 8th
Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, are having a busy winter. One month ago today
they took part in the opening day of the Battle of Cambrai and subsequently
fought in the German counter-attack. Today they are some way to the south, in
the front line near Bullecourt, scene of so much bitter fighting in Spring
during the Battle of Arras.
They spent
the morning cleaning up the camp and set off for the trenches at 3.15 as the
sun was westering, arriving after dark to relieve 2nd Battalion, Durham Light
Infantry. The relief is going on as I write this and is expected to finish
about 9 p.m.
