Absent Without Leave

Wednesday 2nd December 1914: We regret to report the arrest of a soldier of 3rd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Private Amos Perry, absent without leave from Landguard Camp was remanded for an escort. Police Sergeant F. Janes stated that he found the defendant at 6 Park-place, and asked him to produce his pass. He produced one authorising him to be absent from November 14th to 16th, and said that since then he had been under a doctor and had sent a certificate to Landguard. In reply he had received a letter stating that he was not certified to be unfit from duty and must return, as no extension of leave could be granted.
