Bedford Hospital [Z1306/10/6/6]

Wednesday 9th December 1914: We hear that Private George Cuthbert Patten of 2nd/5th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, has died in Bedford Hospital from pneumonia. The deceased, whose home was at 109 Ash Road was under Captain F. W. F. Lathom, and went with the rest from Luton detachment to Bedford about a fortnight ago.

His death, however, is not attributed to “roughing it”, as he was billeted in a very comfortable house, with a good bed to sleep in and other comforts. The funeral will be at Saint Mary’s Church, Luton, on Saturday, Rev. E. Jaquet officiating and will have a semi-military character.
