The
Bedfordshire Yeomanry are at Mesnil-Bruntel on the east bank of the River Somme
directly west of Saint-Quentin. For the last few days they have been engaged,
not in the dashing training of the cavalryman, but the vital, if unglamorous
work of the farmer. They have hitched their horses to ploughs and have been
ploughing in seed for potatoes and other vegetables with which to feed the
army.
