Wednesday 4th April 1917 from
our correspondent in the field
We hear from
the 8th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment that Lord Ampthill assumed command
today, Lord Henry Scott leaving for a staff post at General Head Quarters. The
enemy in the Loos sector is lively. They use a type of projectile referred to
as “aerial darts” by the adjutant. They are especially fond of using them at
night. Yesterday an officer, Second Lieutenant Clark, was wounded, one other
rank killed and three more wounded by them. Clearly the two sets of trenches
are fairly close at this point.
