Wednesday 25th April 1917
After the
severe fighting of the last two days the front has been much quieter here
around Arras today. 17th (Northern) Division of VI Corps attacked again today
but made little progress and, we understand, it is to be relieved tonight by
12th (Eastern) Division.
The adjutant
of the 8th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, has been in touch to say that they
are back in the front line at Cité-Saint-Élie near Loos. The enemy has been very
active with artillery, shelling the reserve, support and front lines with 5.9
and 4.2 howitzers from 10.30 a.m. until about half an hour ago.
