German Use of Child Agents

Monday 9th August: the adjutant of the 2nd Battalion tells us that they have been warned by the Secret Service against child agents. In a certain number of British units are French and Belgian boys and young men of below military age, who pretend to be refugees. The compassionate soldiers feed them and allow them to remain in their billets.

It is reported from other sources that in certain cases these children are German agents. Each unit in the army has been instructed to submit a list of all children or youths under military age who are with the unit and detain them until they have been examined by Secret Service agents(1).
