East Anglian Engineers at Aveluy

Thursday 7th December 1916: From our Correspondent in the Field

The East Anglian Field Company, Royal Engineers are busy on the old Somme battlefield. Indeed the engineers always seem to be busy because there is always some task needing doing somewhere. At present the engineers are not far from Aveluy which adjoins the River Ancre. They have been building machine-gun emplacements. They have also been repairing tramways and building dug-outs in the same area, ready for any German counter-offensive in the new year.
