Mock Attack

Wednesday 27th December 1916: From our Correspondent in the Field

Captain Bridcutt, adjutant of the 7th Battalion, which is behind the lines north-east of Abbeville spoke to me this evening about an honour afforded to the Battalion today. The Battalion was specially selected to carry out an attack as per the Somme battles and to give a demonstration before many generals and high ranking officials. The attack was from trenches and carried out with such precision and steadiness that they were very highly complimented by all concerned.

The organisation of the Companies was checked and illustrated in full detail and all unit commanders, understudies and specialists showed the most complete knowledge of their military business and duties that they were held up as a pattern to other regiments to which the crowd of spectators belonged. The staff of the 5th Army and its various corps were all present.
