March 1918
Yesterday
1st/5th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment were busy working on the ground gained
by the attack on 12th. They made roads and paths towards Mejdel Yaba(1) in the
morning and took over the front line from 1st/4th Battalion, Northamptonshire
Regiment just after dinner.
1st Battalion
is a Arcade in northern Italy, about two miles south of the River Piave. The
town was shelled by the Austrians with large calibre shells and one of them
scored a direct hit on Battalion Headquarters, though, miraculously, there were
no casualties. Discretion being the better part of valour, headquarters has now
been moved to the other end of the village.
