Yesterday's Attack Repulsed

Saturday 9th March 1918

The adjutant of 6th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, tells us that the enemy attack on the Menin Road near Ypres, which was a serious issue for a while, is over and the Germans were ejected from the line before dawn. The Battalion was not required to enter the fight.

1st Battalion continues to hold the bridge of Ponte della Priula at Bidasio. They have undergone a heavy bombardment today and Second Lieutenant Perham has been severely wounded(1)

Yesterday in Palestine the Brigadier of 162nd Brigade gave a lecture to officers and sergeants of 1st/5th Battalion and other battalions in the brigade on hill and open warfare, in expectation of the forthcoming offensive against the Turks in northern Palestine. He also took the time to congratulate everyone on the good results the Brigade had obtained in the Divisional Competitions which have been held recently.

The Bedfordshire Yeomanry, in the area of Saint-Quentin received an order today to move to the back area. They will be leaving 9th Cavalry Brigade to become a cyclist unit, much to their disgust.
