Zillebeke Lake
Sunday 15th July 1917
Captain
Douglas S H Keep was one of the original officers accompanying 7th Battalion to
war in July 1915. He was then a Second Lieutenant and his brother, Captain
Leslie H Keep serves in the same battalion. Whenever a senior officer is killed
the unit mourns, but this young man’s history with the Battalion makes that sorrow
all the more deeply felt. He was killed about two o’clock this afternoon by a
stray shell whilst on the west side of Zillebeke Lake, overseeing cable-laying.
Three other men were wounded and four gassed during the day.
