Thursday 5th October 1916 From our Correspondent in the Field
47th (2nd
London) Division this evening has managed to push its front line forward beyond a ruined
mill north-west of Eaucourt-l’Abbaye. Meanwhile the floundering attacks through
a glutinous sea of mud at the Schwaben Redoubt go on as 8th Battalion, Norfolk
Regiment, from 53rd Brigade made an attack which came to naught.
From far away
Egypt comes a wire that the 1st/5th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, part of
54th (East Anglian) Division is guarding prisoners. They are at El Shatt Camp
and have guard over some two hundred Turks.
