Day One Hundred and Two on the Somme

Tuesday 10th October 1916 From our Correspondent in the Field

I have just heard from 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, that they are at Ferme du Bois near the old 1915 battlefield at Festubert. Their position is highlighted in pink on the map above.

2nd Battalion, meanwhile, are in the front line on the Somme again. They arrived near Bazentin-le-Grand around lunchtime from Dernancourt. This evening they are relieving 20th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, east of Eaucourt-l’Abbaye  facing north. Their position is shown on the map above. The Battalion was heavily shelled twice on its way up to this relief. The Battalion Headquarters is marked by a cross.
