Day Forty One on the Somme

Thursday 10th August 1916 From our Correspondent in the Field

The 6th Bedfords, at Bazentin-le-Petit have suffered more casualties today – two killed and twelve wounded. There is nowhere on the battlefield that is safe. Even those areas where fighting has not taken place for a while are likely to experience a sudden ignition at any time.

The adjutant of 8th Bedfords, part of 6th Division, tells me that they are now on their way to the battle of the Somme for the first time. They have arrived this evening at the village of Englebelmer, two or three mile behind the lines.
