Day Thirty Three on the Somme

Wednesday 2nd August 1916 From our Correspondent in the Field

The 1st Battalion seems to be leaving the Somme, at least for the time being. Today it has marched to bivouacs near Dernancourt, south-west of Albert and on the River Ancre where it arrived early this afternoon.

The 2nd Battalion is also leaving. It also passed through Dernancourt this morning and now is on-board a train heading for Longpré-les-Corps Saints. After sterling efforts in this month long battle both battalions are joining 7th Battalion in areas north of here for resting and refitting. They no doubt hope they will not be returning.
