Day Seventy Four on the Somme

Tuesday 12th September 1916: From our Correspondent in the Field

The Battle of the Somme seems to have entered one of its quiescent phases which follow large and sustained British attacks. Shelling continues, of course, but we have not heard of any major moves today across the battlefront, though the Guards made a little ground towards the hill east of the village of Ginchy. Something is probably brewing for later in the week.

The Bedfordshire Yeomanry are at Daours. Today they have been practising signalling aeroplanes.
