Yesterday we
heard of a great success at Beersheba in Palestine. We believe another great
effort is being made to take Gaza. It seems to have begun last night into the
early hours of this morning. The adjutant of 1st/5th Battalion, Bedfordshire
Regiment, cabled us to say that yesterday was spent in preparing for the
operation and everyone rested as much as possible, the divisional commander
(Major-General S W Hare) speaking with all officers about 2 o’clock yesterday
afternoon
